Graduate Record Exmaination (GRE)
  • GRE is a Computer Adaptive Test. It is conducted by the US based Educational Testing Services(ETS).
  • The test is required for many graduate schools principally in the United States, but also in other English-speaking countries.
  • Some top business schools have started giving an option of submitting scores of GRE instead of GMAT.
  • The test is primarily focused on testing abstract thinking skills in the areas of mathematics, vocabulary and analytical writing.
  • GRE scores are valid for five years. The test can be taken on any day, only once in a calendar month.

Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
·        The Graduate Management Admission Test is taken by students to enroll for an MBA or a Ph.D in Business Management or a Masters Programme in Finance, Human Resources etc. from a business school in the US, Europe or Canada.
·        The GMAT is also accepted by many universities in Australia, Newzealand and Singapore.
·        The GMAT scores are valid for five years.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • The Test of English as a Foreign Language is a standardized test designed to measure the ability to understand and to use English as it is used in North American academic setting, such as a university. Standardized tests are widely used in the United States for college and graduate school admissions and professional licensing.
  • The TOEFL score is widely accepted for admissions in colleges and universities in many English speaking countries. The test is additionally taken in institutions such as government agencies, businesses, or scholarship programmes that may require the test.
  • The scores in this test are accepted by morethan 6,000 colleges, universities and licensing agencies in more than 135 countries, including the US,Canada, the UK., Australia and New Zealand. Many institutions insist on TOEFL scores as a prerequisite for determining the eligibility for admissionor for the award of scholarships.
  • A TOEFL score is valid for two years. Colleges and Universities usually consider only the most recent TOEFL score. The test cannot be taken morethan once in a week.
  • The TOEFL test is scored on a scale of 0 to 30 points in each of four sections Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The four section scores are then added together for a test score of 0 1o 120.

SAT
·        The SAT reasoning test (formerly Scholastic Aptitude Test and Scholastic Assessment Test) is the USA's most widely used admissions test among colleges and Universities.
·        It tests one's knowledge of subjects that are necessary for college success: reading, writing and mathematics. The SAT assesses the critical thinking skills for students who need academic success in college - skills that students learned in high school
·        The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. It tells students how well they use the skills and knowledge they have attained outside the classroom - including how they think, solve problems, and communicate. The SAT is an important resource for colleges. It's also one of the best predictors of how well students will do in college.
·        Each section of the SAT is recorded on a scale of 200 - 800, with two writing sub scores for multiple choice questions and the essay. It is administered seven times a year in US., Puerto Rica, and US Territories, and six times a year overseas.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
·        IELTS is a comprehensive test of English language proficiency designed to assess the ability of non-native speakers of English who intend to go abroad for higher studies in good universities.
·        IELTS tests the complete range of English language skills, which will commonly be encountered by students when studying or undergoing training through the medium of English. It is also required for those desirous of starting some business in English-speaking countries.
·        In IELTS there are two modules - General Training and Academic Training. General Training is for those who wish to migrate to English speaking countries for purposes other than academic pursuits. Academic Training aims at helping students to acquire the required English language skills - in reading, listening, speaking and writing and that way make them eligible for admissions into reputed international Universities.
·        IELTS test is conducted jointly by the British Council, IDP Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL. Score range: 0-9. A good score would be above 7.
·        The IELTS scores are valid for two years. In India the test is conducted in 15 cities across the country including Chennai. You can register the test online at www.ieltsindia.com
·        The IELTS test scores are accepted by the UK, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries including the USA for admissions in Universities and for employment.
